Vintage Design
1940s original Multiples stools in exceptional original condition – Set of six. Designed by Joseph Mathieu and made in Pierre Benite in Lyon . Multiples chairs are an iconic part of industrial French history and we rarely see the stools but these are exceptional. Each stool was hand pressed in huge industrial presses before being hand welded together. The stools are in their original red paint with a dappled black hand applied decoration which we believe to be original as it was done all over the chairs (including the underside) and is typical of that period. The construction underneath is exceptional. Each stool still has the original wooden ‘plugs’ in the feet. Multiples was, in its day the competitor to Tolix, although sadly Multiples did not survive. Examples of Multiples chairs in this condition are becoming increasingly rare, many that are available do not have the original paint and/or they have been badly restored. We specialise in high quality vintage dining chairs and have a large range. Seat Height 47cm.
