Liberty & Co. Made by William Birch
A pair of English Arts & Crafts oak rush-seat dining chairs.
These chairs have been totally restored and had new rush professionally laid to the seat. To professionally re-rush a chair seat demands a good deal of time. We must start with removing the old rush, then labeling all the separate parts so the chair goes back together the exact way it came apart. Next, gently dismantle the chairs, clean all the joints and joint ends, gluing and clamping for at least 24 hours, remove the clamps, clean and wax the chairs, and off to the rush seat specialist to lay new rush seats. This should always be completed before the new rush is laid because if the chair is even slightly loose at the joints, it will only get worse.
