Vintage Design
In a pure, timeless design that has lasted for centuries in China, this cabinet is in a highly original condition. The style is usually referred to as a ’round cornered’ style, with the doors mounted directly into the cabinet top and the bottom frame on wooden dowels, rather than using metal hinges, giving a minimalist look.
The hardware is original, along with the black lacquer finish, which is now worn but largely still intact, revealing the lighter elm wood in just a few parts, such as around the feet and frames. The lacquer has crackled in places to give a lovely patina, particularly to the top surface, adding a wonderful sense of character. The cabinet has a single deep fixed shelf inside, set with two small drawers.
A handsome piece of accent furniture that would make a real statement as a drink cabinet in a living room or a storage cabinet in a bedroom.
