Vintage Design
In rich, dark original finish, that is largely intact, this beautiful cabinet dates from the 19th century and is from Shanxi province, central China. The top surface that has worn with use over the years to reaveal the natural wood beneath, adding warmth and an attractive contrast to the rest of the cabinet. Given its age, this stunning elm cabinet is in an excellent condition and a shining example of quality furniture produced in Shanxi.
Made in a style typical of the region it was produced, it has panelled doors fitted centrally and carved spandrels that taper down to the feet. Each door is fitted with a simple ring handle and are mounted on wooden stiles, with plently of cupboard space behind and a useful single shelf. Two drawers above are beautifully carved to depict horses facing in opposite directions.
A wonderful statement piece, providing practical storage for a living room or used as a dining room sideboard.
