A pair of 18th century Baroque andirons are inspiring for the right fireplace. I think the foliage is more probably gilt tin than gold. Our appraiser tells us that the gilt foliate could have been a later addition. No matter, it is still a charming pair of nice manageable size – not too big, not too small…
Each has a knopped top with applied gilt metal foliate decoration over a twisted standard with applied gilt metal acanthus or waterleaf embellishments, the rounded legs with scrolling drops, terminating in humanoid-form feet. Unsigned.
