With a generous straight back, accompanied by gently scrolled padded arms that lead to two large carved mahogany pillar arm supports.
Beautifully carved supports twist from the ornate capitals beneath the arms, with carved foliate feet and brass recessed castors to the front. The straight back legs are also coupled with brass castors.
The upholstery is made up of several individually sewn sections in four contrasting blue stripe designs, achieving an effortless composition.
The mahogany frame is strong with no splits and the seat springs are in excellent condition. The upholstery shows signs of wear, consummate with age and use.
The sofa was the property of the same owner until we were fortunate enough to acquire the piece directly from a fine English country house.
The sofa is a cherished survivor of the Arts and Crafts movement and is attributed to Liberty of London.
English, circa 1900.
