Make a piece of work in a relatively short time that includes all boat building techniques. That was my challenge for the final paper of the ABC. The result is the Stevenstoel. The keel is made of laminated ash, the wrangles are sawn from solid ash and the skin is made of steamed elm wood.
One hand moves over the round shapes of a solid wood chair. A head bends towards the furniture, sneaking a sniff. It is real wood, it feels and smells like a natural product. I do not make drawings and there is no computer involved. The design is created entirely in my head, a scale model is the next phase. Then I start building. This organic process and its character remain visibly present in the final product.
