Late 19th C. Eastern European Icon of St. Gregory. Painted on a panel composed of two boards joined together with two battens, top and bottom. The wood appears to be either pine or fir and has knots and old worming with losses filled in at the corners. The surface of the painting appears to have been in a place where it was lightly darkened from candle or incense smoke. The paint layer is flat and original with no restorations. The figure is stylized and naive of a provincial nature. Framed in a nicely moulded walnut frame.
