The term ‘Carlton House’ has become a popular phrase to describe a writing table with a low superstructure that encloses the sides of the writing area as well as the back. The Prince of Wales, later George IV, commissioned a table of this model in the 1790s for Carlton House.
The desk has a leather topped writing area surrounded by small drawers, cupboards and storage areas. There are also five larger drawers to the front of the desk so there is ample storage space on this piece. Each of the drawers also has more inlay work, as do the legs and the sides. This would make for a stylish piece for your home, offered as it is in perfect condition. The piece also sits on brass castors so it is easy to move around. We are expecting a lot of interest in this piece which we were lucky enough to buy from a private house call in Regents Park London.
The piece is solid and sturdy and will last for generations and hence would also make for a great heirloom.
