An exceptional hand painted, probably continental, porcelain cabinet plate retailed by Wilhelm & Graef New York titled ‘The Ruffed I’m After’ signed A Pope and dating from the latter 19th century. The finely made plate stands raised on a double unglazed foot rim with a smaller central rim slightly recessed to the centre of the base. The plate has a shaped raised rim and is hand decorated with a pheasant within an open landscape and looking for somewhere to hide. The scene is very well painted in colored enamels and is painted in a panel set to the upper edge of the plate and within a rich cobalt blue decorative scrollwork border highlighted with gilding. The border continues around the edge of the plate and is applied with gilded leafy sprigs. The plate is printed with retailers marks to the base and is also signed and titled to the central recess.
